Free Electives
Any course with three credits or more can be used to fulfill a free elective.
A student may choose to apply the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading option to a free elective course instead of using the traditional A-F grading. Only one course per semester may be taken with the S/U option, and it cannot be applied to any course that is used to satisfy any requirement of the core, major, or minor. A course that is passed under the S/U option does not affect the student's grade point average.
Note: The S/U grading option has replaced the Pass/Fail grading option. The terminology was changed because a grade of D- is technically passing, but not necessarily satisfactory. The general rule of thumb is that a grade of C or better is considered to be satisfactory for S/U grading purposes. Students should consult the instructor of the course regarding this issue.
