Internship Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
Student will assist the Information Technology staff with the collection, organization, analysis and documentation of detailed electronic data, and the presentation and layout of data in web-based formats supporting the needs for DVRPC staff in their Long-Range Planning efforts. The incumbent will work in a team-based environment assisting over a dozen DVRPC project managers and data analysts with day-to-day activities. Close supervision is provided by a supervisor who assigns tasks, gives preliminary instructions, reviews work in process and upon completion for quality and adherence to established standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data collection, cleaning, and organization.
- Research and documentation of data caveats and metadata.
- Maintenance of a Data Dictionary for all assigned work.
- Creation of database tables, queries and forms in Microsoft Access.
- Presenting summary data in clear, organized charts and graphs.
- Codes, compiles, tests, debugs, modifies and documents new or existing Access Database programs.
- Assists in design and automation of databases for use on the DVRPC Website and Intranet.
- Limited entry of old non-electronic data.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Microsoft Windows XP Operating System.
- Relational Database experience (SQL at least, design and application coding preferable).
- Basic HTML skills.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of Active Server Pages (.asp) or statistical analysis software (SAS or SPSS) is a plus.
- The candidate will be currently studying for a Bachelor / Master Degree in IT, or a related discipline.
AVAILABILITY
This position requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week. Up to 37.5 hours.
SALARY: Paid position at hourly rates commensurate with education and experience.
